The best engine in the world is also the best engine for the world. Volkswagen’s
118kW 1.4 TSI engine not only won Best Green Engine 2009, but 65 journalists from 32 countries rated its performance, drivability and economy above all others and announced it International Engine of the Year for 2009. Why?
This revolutionary Turbo Stratified Injection (TSI) engine delivers impressive power and low fuel consumption combined with low emissions. It does this by applying twin-charging technology to a small capacity engine. The use of both a super and turbocharger ensures immediate engine response the moment you put your foot down on the accelerator. At the same time, a computer-controlled system ensures uninterrupted power delivery - which means better control and sharper handling of your car without increasing your carbon footprint.
TSI includes not only smaller engines that are twin-charged, but larger engines that are turbocharged too. In fact, most of our range includes a TSI engine option: Scirocco, Eos, Tiguan, Passat, Volkswagen CC, New GTI and the New Golf, the World Car of the Year for 2009.
